My TY camping trip experience!!!
The TY camping trip began when we got on the bus to Lough Dan.
I, of course, was the last person on the bus. It took me twenty minutes to shove all my bags and gear into the bus cabin.
When I got on the bus I had to sit at the very front beside the massive kiwi, Jason. He nearly took up both seats!!
We arrived at Lough Dan at noon and began to set up the tents. The only tent I had ever 'set up' was a pop up tent! I was instructed by Eli on what to do and where to put it. It was Eli's tent so I took all his advise onboard. My tent was first built at the top of the hill. At first I didn't under why we set up at the top of the hill. But when it rained we were the only tent that didn't get flooded!! Our plan had worked
I brought snacks, utensils and utilities and pancake batter for breakfast.
For lunch on the first day I boiled water and made koka noodles. After lunch I began to gather wood for the campfire.
Then we set off on a six kilometre walk. It took about an hour and a half. I wore my old casual shoes and saved my walking shoes for the long walk the next day.
That night I made pasta for dinner and Eli made bacon. It was a delicious combo and was devoured quickly especially on an empty stomach.
I was up first the next morning and stayed as quiet as possible. I unzipped my section of the tent and accidentally woke up Ryan. Then there was a knock on effect and Ryan woke up Joe who woke up Eli.
I made the lads some amazing pancakes on the gas ring!
On the hike I accidentally wore my astros, which are terrible for walking in. You are not meant to walk more then three kilometres in them and I walked twenty-two!!! I learned to always check my shoes before going out again!
Packing away the tent in the wet, windy conditions was a nightmare. It really took a combined effort!
