Martial Arts/Self Defence
On Monday the 23rd and Tuesday the 24th of October the school organised for us do do a Martial Arts Self Defence course.
The course began with a slideshow of various Self Defence situations. Our instructor Daragh explained what your should do in self defence situations and how to aboid them entirely. Daragh also showed us videos of fights and how sloppy they were.
After lunch all the Transition year students went down to the sports hall to begin the physical aspect of the course.
We began by getting into groups of 7/8 and doing pad work. On the pads we did an number of different strikes., such as; jab, cross, palm strikes, hammer strikes and elbow strike. Day one finished off with some basic kicks.
There was great excitement from everyone as day two began.
The first port of call was defending ourselves from the ground. We then moved on to pressure points and locks, which are, in my opinion, the most effective self defence techniques. After that we did Defence against weapons such as knives and guns. The final part consisted of an intense physical assessment where we had to do 250 strikes and lots of fitness exercises.
Overall I really enjoyed the course and found it very beneficial.

Public Access To Law
On Friday the 10th of November I took part in a day long course that focused on Law. I am partially interested in Law and I was looking forward to partaking in this course.
The course began with two criminal investigations that we watched on the projector. One delt with Criminal Law and the on the with Civil Law.
After break we re-enacted two trial that happened in the past. I was one of the prosecutors in the first case and a juror in the second.
The course was fun and interactive. It has definitely changed my views of Law (in a good way)!

Tag Rugby
At the start of the year the school organised Ireland tag rugby coaches to train us during P.E.
The tag rugby course was very different to rugby. It was a lot less physical and played at a much greater pace. I am number 23 in the photos. I throughly enjoyed the course and am thinking about joining a tag rugby team.

TY Mini Company
I was one of only three people to undertake the TY mini company out of a whole year group of 93! I decided I would sell a variety of dog products on the night of the Bazzar. I felt like I was a good sales person and bought a lot of products relying on that feeling!
While setting up my stand I put it in a strategic position, right in front of the main entrance to the school.
I had a good night of sales and profit. I proved to myself that I could sell everything despite the doubt in my mind.
I also donated all €65 profit I made to charity. It ended up going to a better cause.

First Aid
The First Aid course was on of the most informative and important courses I have done over this school year.
Everyone took the course very seriously.
The man who was teaching us first aid was an amazing teacher. He would explain the situation and what to do in it. Then we would watch an example on the screen, then we would get into pairs and preform it on each other.
In the three day there was a lot of information to take on, all of it important and lifesaving.
At the end of the course there was a test which consisted of written and practical examination.
Nearly everyone got a distinction and passed with flying colours.
The first aid course one I will remember forever.

Three Peaks
On Friday the 4th of May Transition year students began a long and treturous journey to bray harbour. The 18Km hike began at the bottom of the sugarsloaf. We began with the sun in your eyes as we accented to the sholder. The five minute break at the sholder was key to advance back down the other side
The next brief pause was in Kilmac petrol station where we stocked up food and ice cream. We then faced the next task... the second sugarloaf. When we reached the top we stopped for a 30 minute lunch break. Energy was replenished and we set sail for Bray head
As I am going to the Camino I packed my bag with contents weighing 7Kg, to get used to it.
The hike up Bray head was the most enjoyable for me. The trees shaded us from the lethal sun.
The scenery when we reached the top of Bray head was breathtaking.
The weather also contributed to the difficulty of the walk but was good preparation for the Camino.
